  • What does "commission" mean?

If you don't understand what commissioning means, have no fear: there is a handy explanation below.

Commissioning an image means a piece of art/content is created just for you. Many people get the word “commission” mixed up with “request” when it comes to art-
A request is a general idea that you pitch to an artist, and if they like it they will run with that idea. Requests are loose ideas that artists take when they feel like and have time, but do not charge for. I take requests for my monthly Patreon pinup.
A request example: “I would like to see a human version of the Pokemon ‘Raichu’.”

commission is a specific idea that you want created and are willing to spend money to get it right. Commissioning an image means you get to pitch in more details- f0r example, if you want your OC wearing a specific outfit in a specific pose. I am usually available to take commissions.
A commission example: “I would like a half-body pinup of my OC wearing a bikini at the beach.”

  • Should I pay via Paypal or Patreon?

Both are totally fine options, but...

I am happy to take commissions both ways- but if you commission me via Patreon it makes it easier:
-for me to declare my taxes (woo!)
-means you also get higher-level tier Patreon perks on top of your commission (double-win for you)
-AND you already have the payment method saved on Patreon

Tiers from $60 and above on Patreon are eligible for custom content each month

  • Who retains the copyright?

Content creators automatically retain copyright but you do have rights to the images

Copyright law seems to be a confusing subject for many people now that we are in the internet age, so it’s understandable that many people won’t understand how it works.
Because I automatically own the copyright to all images I create (under the Berne Convention), I have the right to sell/distribute/make a profit from it. I give the commissioner the rights to distribute my work (preferably with credit) but you do not have the automatic right to sell the content on. I am happy to do custom content that passes the copyright on to you (such as logos, works intended to be published, etc) but you must inform me that this is what you want.
    This is standard copyright law.

Important: Content published on the internet always remains the copyright of the owner/creator. Just because it is posted on the internet does not mean it has no copyright and that you are free to use the work however you like.
